I have been subbing at the local elementary schools. This week I have to admit that my heart is confused at what I heard.

First...I guess I am old... when I was in grade school boys had "Cooties" and then one day they were pretty COOL!

I had friends that were girls IE: Girlfriends

and I had boys that were friends. IE Boyfriends.

Does this sound familiar?

Well, this is the conversation I heard between a 3rd grade little boy and a little girl.



and YES it stopped me in my tracks!

Little Boy: "So, you must be a Lesbian"

Little Girl: " I don't think so, I like boys and girls".

Little Boy: "Oh that makes you Bi"

Little Boy: "I use to be gay, because I only liked to play with boys, now I like to play with boys AND girls, So I am Bi too"

The little girl walked away with a look of OK I am Bi....

I was standing there with my mouth open.

I wanted to just cry...Bi WHAT????

really...what our children learning!








I have to be really honest....

When I was in 3rd grade I had no clue what Bi, Gay or Lesbian meant. Maybe they don't get it either...

But, when did just playing with friends on the playground become about Sexual Orientation?

I am still sad...be it that they are straight or not... that little girl left for recess having her thoughts and maybe her emotions changed...just because of who she wanted to play with...
