Friday Follow

I have been subbing at the local elementary schools. This week I have to admit that my heart is confused at what I heard.

First...I guess I am old... when I was in grade school boys had "Cooties" and then one day they were pretty COOL!

I had friends that were girls IE: Girlfriends

and I had boys that were friends. IE Boyfriends.

Does this sound familiar?

Well, this is the conversation I heard between a 3rd grade little boy and a little girl.

and YES it stopped me in my tracks!
Little Boy: "So, you must be a Lesbian"
Little Girl: " I don't think so, I like boys and girls".
Little Boy: "Oh that makes you Bi"
Little Boy: "I use to be gay, because I only liked to play with boys, now I like to play with boys AND girls, So I am Bi too"

The little girl walked away with a look of OK I am Bi....
I was standing there with my mouth open.
I wanted to just cry...Bi WHAT????

really...what our children learning!

I have to be really honest....
When I was in 3rd grade I had no clue what Bi, Gay or Lesbian meant. Maybe they don't get it either...

But, when did just playing with friends on the playground become about Sexual Orientation?

I am still sad...be it that they are straight or not... that little girl left for recess having her thoughts and maybe her emotions changed...just because of who she wanted to play with...
What do you think?

On a lighter note....this is the site I found these cute paper dolls on.

I think this conversation had nothing to do with sexua relations; they were merely talking about who they play with. Fortunately noone has yet taught them to hate.

Really cute paper dolls. I seriously hope the kids had no idea what those words really mean because labeling like that could be very hurtful to each other when all they want to do is play on the swings or run in the grass with their friends.

Stopping by to say hello with Friday Follow. Hope you have an amazing weekend with your family and friends.

Just one kid can confuse a whole bunch of them. Hopefully the little girl asks her parents about it and they tell her that she can play with whoever she wants.

I'm a day late, but I found you through Friday Follow! Great blog, I'm now a Google Friend Connect Follower! :)

I think that is crazy. Boys have cooties. Period. End of story. Then later they are cute. Then later they are lame. Then later they are fun again...until they act lame...which is a lot. Not sure the boy new totally what he was talking about--hopefully NOT. The girl didn't seem to know at all, but now her mom will have to explain things a little to her. Crazy.

Oh goodness. Why are these kids even using these words? I'm pretty sure they had no clue what it all meant and like some of your other commenters I hope they have parents that will explain it.
I think the thing that bothers me the most is the 'labeling' that has entered into innocent childrens vocabulary that causes such confusion. Sounds like and agenda is being pushed...hmmmm?

Oh goodness, Janiece, is this really a true story?!! Wow! I couldn't even believe what I was reading! How sad! What is this world coming to?! And I have to raise my babies in this crazy place? I'm scared.

I can't believe that! I was still playing with Barbies and boys had cooties until I was about 12. That is just sad :(

We're a little late, but thanks for stopping by Friday! We're following you back. Have a great day :)
