Master Josh Burgess

Last Saturday, Sept. 22nd, Josh had to "mid-term".

It was held prior to the beginning of a tournament in Rupert. I was excited that it was close to home so we could go watch him. I LOVE watching him in the art of Taekwondo.

The rank of Master has several different forms that have to be demonstrated in front of a judging panel of other Taekwondo Masters.

I was so impressed with the students who showed such respect to their instructor to come to the tournament early to watch Josh and show their encouragement.

Those who would be competing later in the tournament or not.

Pretty darn neat.

So, I tried using my camera to video Josh doing part of one of his forms and his board breaks.

Have you ever been videoing and can't tell if the camera is taping or not?

Yep, have a couple of minutes of the floor, walls....

But trust me, the board breaks were 

AWESOME!!!

Congrats Bud, I love you.

You are a great example of a real gentleman, friend and an amazing instructor.

 Today was AWESOME!!!

and I am so glad I was there.

After ALL the intro to the start of the HTF National Tournament were done and with all those that would compete and observe, Josh was called to stand before the HTF Masters.

There  he recited the oath of a Master

( I wish I had the words)

Josh was welcomed into an elite group of men and women,

as a

Master of Taekwondo

and a place at the tale of HTF Masters.

It was a dream being completed, years of work, dedication and desire

led to this day.

Josh & Taekwondo

I have been asked why I put Josh in Taekwondo when he was younger...

I did it because he was small, quiet and was being picked on a lot at school.

Not because I wanted him to be a bully, but because I wanted him to learn to have confidence in himself.

and what an amazing adventure it has beenJosh aka Mr. Burgess, "Teacher", Mr. Josh is now doing the same thing for other students.

Teaching the Martial Art of TaekowndoJosh enjoys "forms", basically they are self defense moves done in a specific sequence.
and though he is very good at sparing it is not his favorite thing to do

Josh has always been respectful...and so that part of the Art came natural to himDon't get me wrong he likes the metals Though now he would rather just watch his students compete at tournaments

On Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, in Twin Falls, Josh mid-termed in preparation to earning his

5th Degree Blackbelt. He still has 1 1/2 years until he can test for 5th Degree and the

title of Master

But over the past 14+years I still get nervous at belt advancements, testings and tournaments

He is finding new ways to break boards

but everyone looks forward to watching him FLY

His respect and support to his Senior Instructors and students is close to unmatched.

Josh and I have traveled as he competed in National Tournaments and Demo- Team Competition

Kirk would stay home with Kira and Derek.

So, it was extra nice to have him at this next step of Josh's Taekwondo journey.

You still have the Eye of the Tiger!

Good Day

First, I want you to know I started this blog post on Saturday...I am not sure why it has taken until Monday at 1 am to finish it

Josh started taking Taekwondo when he was I believe 10 years old. He has progressed a great deal from when he first started. I have always enjoyed watching him. He and I use to travel all over to different tournaments. First in ATA, ITC and now in the HTF organizations. (I looked for pictures from when he was young and we were traveling to California, Washington and of coarse here in Idaho, but they are in pictures that are not saved on my computer so I would have to dig through boxes to find them, and beings that I have taken 2 days to do this post I decided not to embarace him that much.) Anyway, Saturday he and several of his students went to a tournament in Rupert, it always has a good turn out from schools from Idaho and Washington, and this was no different. All of his students that competed received medals, including Josh.

Mr. Josh Burgess, Silver in Sparing, Silver in Forms with a 9.0, 9.5, 9.5 score.

Josh was also presented with "2008 HTF Instructor of the Year"

by the President of the HTF 8th Degree Black belt, Grand Master Jack PierceYea, I am a happy mom...what can I say...

Then that evening Kirk and I got to go hang out with the neighbors for block party BBQ it was great fun! We live on an amazing lane with fantastic people!

County Fair Time

One of the nice things about living in small town America is each year we get to enjoy a real county fair, with Rodeos, Animals, FFA, 4-H, Home made projects and most importantly GREAT food...what is it about a hamburger at the fair that is so darn good, or corn on the cob...oh my gosh HOMEMADE Maple Bars...OH YEA BABY, now we are talking!

But, before all that happens we have the Cassia County Parade, I haven't seen it for seveal years now because I am always driving the truck for my son, Josh's Taekwondo School . Every year he has some of his students that help during the parade either by passing out flyers or doing some type of "demo".

It is always great fun.

So, the parade is over and I am off to decide if I am having a hamburger or corn on the cob for dinner...or maybe I will just fill up on maple bars.
